Traditionally-crafted Celtic Herbal Ointments

image125

All of our herbal formulations are hand-crafted from the old Celtic pharmacopoeias of medicinal herbs. What makes our ointments unique is that they are manufactured in small batches using slow, traditional extraction methods--we take the time to care.

Our medicinal ointments are made from greenhouse-grown, medicinal-grade herbs that have been tested for chemical and microbial contamination including pesticides, and have Certificates of Analysis to confirm their safe use and non-GMO status.

All of our herbal medicinal ointments are licensed by Health Canada which means they have been scientifically-proven through published medical studies to conform to modern safety and efficacy standards when used according to Directions.

Smudging

An Ancient Practice

image133

Smudging is the practice of burning dried herbs as incense and using the smoke to cleanse one’s aura and one’s personal space of negative or stagnant energy. Many cultures believed that smudging was a way to send their prayers up to the heavens with the smoke. In Celtic traditions, the ancestors used to burn mixtures of herbs and flowers rather than smudging with one, single species of herb.

At Earth Mama’s Apothecary Ltd., we make all of our smudge sticks from organically grown herbs and/or herbs that we sustainably wildcraft from natural areas. Our smudge sticks are available seasonally, as the herbs mature and become ready to harvest. We hand roll our smudge sticks and tie them with cotton twine for safe burning.

To light a smudge stick, hold one end inside a flame for long enough to create bright, burning embers at the burning end of the stick and then blow out the flame. It is usually necessary to re-light the stick several times so repeat the process as necessary. Always burn the smudge stick in an ashtray or fire-safe container and never leave a burning smudge stick unattended. When finished smudging, extinguish the stick by stubbing out the lit end in an ashtray or fire-safe container. Save the remainder of the stick for future use.

Our smudge sticks are made with unique varieties of herbs and are guaranteed to be a minimum length of eight inches. We are currently offering 4 different kinds of smudge sticks, but this could change based on what is available to us.

About Helen

Artisan Medicine-Maker

I'm a traditional Celtic herbalist, which means I'm particularly interested in the medicinal plants used by my ancestors in the old Celtic healing pharmacopoeias. We live in such a diverse area of Canada in terms of flora that we can find most of the traditional Celtic plant medicines in our local forests. And so the passion began...

I make medicines the old-fashioned way--which is a slow and labour-intensive process, so please keep in mind that I am only one person and I'm only available for two production days a week. That being said, I produce medicinal stock regularly to meet with the demands of vending at festivals and large events, so if we are not able to ship your order within 24 hours, we will message you right away to arrange a shipment date.

Be sure to check out our photo gallery of Earth Mama's backyard Treasures. It will give you an idea of the kind of beautiful diversity our Carolinian habitat offers, and why we think it is worth protecting.

Thank you for your support!

Wishing you many blessings on your healing journey.
